Cloud Computing and Denial of Service Attacks

SASE Secure Access Service Edge

We received a call the other day from the CTO of a collocation company that was in the midst of a Denial of Service attack on his network.  While I have read articles about this subject, this was the first time that I had ever spoken to a CTO who was living through the nightmare.

This company has customers that were hosting their business applications on their servers and performance was not very acceptable, under the circumstances.  This lead to a discussion about MPLS and providing a secondary access network for their customers, through local VPN access to the MPLS network, or actual local loops for redundancy.

The internet still can be considered the “wild West” and, sad as it is, there are bright but dangerous people who hack for recreation.  If you are going to use applications that are hosted elsewhere, be sure that you have the redundancy to protect yourself.
