There are three different approaches to DDoS mitigation.

Hardware solutions are flow-based and the most common DDoS mitigation solution available.  This solution is installed in your data center to sample packets.  Generally, they sample one out of every thousand, trying to estimate the other 999 packets to be efficient.  Hardware is acquired that is relative to your  bandwidth requirements.  The customer manages this solution. But don’t you think the other 999/1000 packets should be inspected? This allows you to detect and mitigation attacks faster and more accurately.

Option 2: Cloud-based DDoS mitigation solutions

Some DDoS mitigation companies use a cloud-based model.  This is potentially more scalable than a hardware model, but it introduces latency, which reduces its attractiveness for businesses that need high performance, such as Gaming, Financial Institutions and Video Streaming. Content delivery network (CDN)-based solutions are a new spin on cloud-based mitigation. CDN speeds up websites by caching content and then serving it locally to visitors. This results in faster viewing delivery. CDNs help overcome latency issues present in legacy cloud-based scrubbers; in so doing they’re also suitable to be deployed on a persistent, or always on, manner because they both protect and accelerate.

Option 3: Hybrid DDoS mitigation solutions

SASE Experts recommends a hybrid solution that utilizes 100% packet sampling in concert with an associated cloud solution.  This is the only approach that will work without regard to the size of the DDoS attack.  Hardware only solutions all have limitations that can relate in your site failing if the attack load it high enough.  The hybrid approach eliminates that risk.
